Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition Coming In January

Capcom made some headlines this week with their big announcement of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. SFV: AE isn’t a whole new game but more so a huge update with some new game modes and quality of life improvements. The additions and changes in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is as follows:

  • Updated UI – The UI will be completely updated with a new look and an aim for substance over style.

  • Extra Battle – In this mode, you will fight against, what Capcom calls, unique Enemies. Golden Shadolooo soldiers who can be defeated for fight money and opponents wearing “special” alternate costumes are mentioned specifically.

  • Arcade Mode – Capcom wanted to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Street Fighter by allowing players to play through an arcade mode that follows the path to 6 individual SF games. Each path allows the player to fight through enemies and see an ending for each character and for each path.

  • Gallery Mode – Gallery mode displays the endings received while playing through Arcade mode. It also states that by fulfilling certain requirements you will be able to unlock special illustrations. There are over 200 pieces to unlock.
  • New V-Triggers – All Characters are receiving a V-Trigger II which can be selected before your fight.
  • DLC Characters – New players who purchase SFV: AE will receive all Season 1 and Season 2 DLC characters.
    • *As of this posting, Season 1 and 2 DLC characters are said to come packaged with the purchase of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Owners of base SFV will still have to purchase the DLC characters through FM or real money* 

Newcomers will be able to purchase Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition both physically and digitally for the price of $39.99 when it releases on January 16th. It will come with all modes and updates stated above and will release for PS4 and Windows PC. As stated before, SFV: AE is an update and will be free for all current owners of SFV but, as of this posting, the DLC characters will still need to be purchased. Capcom stated there will be more details coming soon as we get closer to the SFV: AE release date.
