The First Batch Of Backward Compatible Original Xbox Games Announced

The first batch of backward compatible original Xbox games has been announced and are slated to go live tomorrow. Many have been waiting for more details regarding this status of backward compatibility since the announcement was made at E3 2017. Xbox will be releasing the games in batches much like they’re doing with Xbox 360 games. There will be a total of 13 games available under the program and they are as follows:

  • Black
  • Bloodrayne 2
  • Crimson Skies
  • Dead to Rights
  • Fuzion Frenzy
  • Grabbed by the Ghoulies
  • Neowave: The King of Fighters
  • Ninja Gaiden Black
  • Pirates!
  • Prince of Persia
  • Psychonauts
  • Red Faction II
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

All games will be available digitally through the Microsoft store on Xbox for about $9.99 each. However, if you own the physical copy, you will be able to use your disc on the Xbox One and play directly. This is a good chance for those who didn’t own an original Xbox to enjoy some of the classics. Critically acclaimed games like Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic and Ninja Gaiden Black are ranked among some of my own personal favorites.

While this is a great start for backward compatible Xbox games, I for one would like to see what’s next. Do we get to see more Only for Xbox titles like the 4-D time manipulating platformer Blinx? How about the action movie party game Kung Fu Chaos? Maybe even a combo of Mechassault 1 and 2 There are many different original Xbox titles that can resurface thanks to this backward compatibility program.

I do have one personal request in the coming waves of original Xbox games. I would love to see a fully localized Shin Megami Tensei: Nine. I know it’s a long shot but I remember hearing about this exclusive Shin Megami Tensei game on the internet as a kid and the western release never came! Atlus and Phil Spencer, I’m looking at you. Please make this happen!
